Some entertainers have many skills that they combine to create an act, such as a comedian who sings and plays an instrument. Some work as a group while others are solo performers. Some entertainers work full time, others work part time, or both, to maintain a regular income.

They can be booked for one-off performances, weekly or monthly slots, or for whole seasons, if they are in a musical show, on a cruise ship or at a holiday park. Entertainers are paid set or negotiated fees per contract. An entertainer in regular work could make around 10,000 a year.

Entertainers are usually self-employed and on the books of one or more agents who find work for them for a fee or commission. Some entertainers do other work to maintain a regular income, because there are gaps between jobs. Entertainers with a lot of skills are more likely to work.

Production companies, cruise ship operators, holiday and theme park operators, circuses, social clubs, local councils, and leisure and entertainment centers are some of the employers. Children's entertainers, puppeteers and magicians are sometimes used by families. Entertainers may be employed by large companies.

Become an Entertainment Professional

If you enjoy working with children, you could become a children's entertainer. Magicians, clowns, puppeteers, jugglers, musicians and characters in costume are some of the different forms of children's entertainment. Once you have a good idea of what type of entertainment you want to do, you can begin to focus on the business aspect of being a children's entertainer.

You should study your craft. Children will see an amateur who is doing the minimum in order to make some money. You can be the best children's entertainer you can be by watching how-to videos, getting an internship or hiring a mentor.

If you want to juggle or become a clown, you should consider working with the circus. If you are interested in performing in a musical or puppet show, you should look for an internship with a local theater group. You can register to pay your taxes quarterly if you do so.

Entertainers bring fun and excitement to an audience in a variety of ways. To be an entertainer you need to develop your talent and connect with your audience. Entertainers began honing their skills as children.

They may have taken lessons in a variety of genres. They could have had the chance to perform in a school play, play in a church choir, or play in the marching band. It is never too late to develop a talent in your youth.
